I’ve been to Paris over ten times and stayed in many, many different hotels, not always noteworthy (I’d rather forget about that seedy one in Pigalle, thank you very much). However, when I come across a hotel that’s well-located, well-designed, and, on top of that, well-priced, I like to shout it out the rooftop and let as many people know.
Here’s a great little hotel that you should definitely consider for your next trip to Paris: Hotel La Parizienne, in the up-and-coming southern part of the 6th arrondissement.
Hotel La Parizienne: My Room
I was assigned a beautiful Curieuse room on the top floor of this 28-room boutique hotel with surprisingly luxe features for a 3* property at that price point. The contemporary decor reflects the forward-thinking mind of La Parizienne, as demonstrated by the free Wi-Fi (although, in full disclosure, it was sometimes spotty), the flat screen television, air conditioning, and a Handy phone with free local calls and Internet. The compact but cleverly laid-out room had everything I needed, from ample storing space to dreamy Nuxe organic toiletries, along with a tasteful and bright decor.
As the hotel itself describes it, the room “will suit you if you enjoy seeing Parisian life at your feet, looking for unique details that are its charm and observing the building façades and the dance of passersby in the street“. I can’t help but agree, as I regularly found myself staring at outside the window of my abode and watch Parisians go about their business, with Tour Montparnasse stoically standing in the background.
Hotel La Parizienne: The Lounge & Lobby
The design hotel’s common areas are quite small but, again, offer everything guests might need during their stay, including a concierge service, a multi-lingual staff, a breakfast room, and an honesty bar, all of which are complemented by Polish-born-but-Paris-obsessed Marta Fontana’s whimsical sketches of the quintessential Parisian woman.
Do ask the reception staff to help out with local things to do and tour suggestions; chances are they’ll be happy to help you pick the right option and arrange reservations for you.
Hotel La Parizienne: The Location
As demonstrated by this photo, you can tell Hotel La Parizienne is blessed with an incredible location. Just a few minutes walk from Falguière (line 12), Duroc (lines 10 and 13), and Gare Montparnasse metro stations (lines 4, 6, 12, 13), it’s also within a healthy walking distance from world-class attractions like Jardin du Luxembourg, the boutiques of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, and even Champs-de-Mars and the Eiffel Tower. Among my favourite places to eat, drink, and play in the area, I particularly like:
- La Maison du Croque-Monsieur
- La Closerie des Lilas
- Palais des Thés
- The nameless Pâtisserie at 88 rue de Rennes
- Coutume Café
- Musée Rodin
It’s also worth pointing out that Gare Montparnasse services most of western France, making it easy to just hop on the train and go on a spontaneous day trip to, say, Bordeaux, the Loire Valley or La Rochelle.
Hotel La Parizienne: The Lowdown
Hotel La Parizienne is an intimate, tastefully-designed boutique hotel in a typical Parisian building just off emblematic boulevard du Montparnasse. I highly recommend it for second or third timers to the city who want to steer clear of the overly touristy areas and experience Paris almost like a local.
I was a guest of Hotel La Parizienne. As always, all opinions are my own.
